This is already the 13th time that mediAVentures supported the LINC meeting last January 2017! The Leipzig INterventional Course is now the biggest and most successful endovascular congress in the world. Back in 2004, it all started with a small meeting in the hospital, with about 200 participants. Quite soon, in 2005 already, the meeting moved to the Westin Hotel and in 2009 to the Congress Center Leipzig. Because the number of participants kept growing very fast we are now building all meeting rooms and the Exhibition in one of the big expo halls of the Messe Leipzig. LINC topped a number of more than 5.000 participants in 2017!
One of the major reasons for the success of LINC are the live cases. There are about 100 patients treated live during the congress. This requires a huge organisation: finding the right patients, who are willing to undergo their treatments live and with sometimes very new and complex procedures, is not an easy task. This year mediAVentures transmitted live cases again from 13 live sites, of which 2 at the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. The team of Prof. Dierk Scheinert worked from 3 cathlabs in the Universitätsklinikum Leipzig. This meant that we had three parallel cases going on, all transmitted in "quadruple feed" (actually using 4K carriers on microwave links)... This multi-window approach to live case transmissions is a new dimension in our path of innovation. Other German sites are Berlin, Bad Krozingen, Jena, and Münster. Cotignola and Albano Terme (Italy) and Bern (Switzerland) also participate. Then there are two US sites, Columbus, OH and once more, New York, NY. Last but not least there will be a day of transmissions from Dendermonde, Belgium, and also from Galway, Ireland, again! New is also Lille, France!
At the Messe mediAVentures built two Main Arenas, a Technical Forum, an open style Discussion Forum and a specially shaped Global Exchange Forum. We use very big screens with the size of the swimming pool and widescreen projections in all rooms. This year there will be two Speaker's Corners! All posters will be presented digitally, using two of our proprietary eMP-islands.
The construction of the Main Arena 1 is circular and without real walls or curtains. The separation between the room and the outer part will be built with our Great Glass Wall® panels and sound baffles... This is the innovation that we want to introduce also for the other meetings and rooms: no walls, fewer curtains and more glass - more open and sound-proof than ever! Main Arena 2 actually has to look very much like what we see the "multi-purpose meeting room of the future": glass and LED screens, just that, that's the very future for the big congresses that need temporary meeting rooms constructed!
We had the big LED displays against the walls along the Exhibition and we flew the LINC-CUBE very centrally in the hall. The CUBE is a big four-sided projection screen on which all kinds of content can be displayed. It also showed live cases from each of the rooms in between sponsored messages and videos. New was also the LINC Lounge, a dedicated space where we had a nice set-up of a LED wall and a lounge set-up to show promotion clips on all the upcoming and future LINC related meetings (that we are mostly involved in too). This lounge area will also be used as an overflow area for MA1!
